The journey typically begins with a drive from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi. From there, the trail climbs through lush forests of rhododendron and bamboo, following the Langtang Khola river. As you ascend, the forest gives way to wide glacial valleys and alpine meadows where yaks graze.
The turnaround point is usually Kyanjin Gompa. Many trekkers spend an extra day here to acclimatize and hike to nearby viewpoints before retracing their steps back down the valley.
