Gorakhpur to Kathmandu & Evening Pashupatinath Aarti
Your journey begins with an early departure from Gorakhpur, crossing the Indo-Nepal border at Sonauli. The drive to Kathmandu covers approximately 333 km and typically takes 9 to 10 hours depending on traffic and border formalities. The route winds through the scenic plains of the Terai before ascending into the winding hills of the Mahabharat Range. As you climb, the air turns cooler and the landscape transforms into lush green valleys dotted with traditional Nepali villages.
Upon reaching Kathmandu in the late afternoon, you will head directly to the Pashupatinath Temple, the holiest Hindu shrine in Nepal. Situated on the banks of the Bagmati River, this UNESCO World Heritage site comes alive in the evening. You will witness the Sandhya Aarti (evening prayer), a mesmerizing ritual where priests perform synchronized light offerings with large oil lamps. The rhythmic chanting of mantras, the scent of incense, and the flickering flames reflecting off the river create a powerful spiritual atmosphere. This evening experience offers a profound introduction to the cultural soul of the capital before you check in to your hotel for a well-deserved rest.

Kathmandu Full Day Sightseeing
Day two is dedicated to exploring the rich historical and religious tapestry of the Kathmandu Valley, covering roughly 30–35 km of local travel. The morning starts at Kathmandu Durbar Square, where the ancient royal palace and the home of the Living Goddess (Kumari) stand as masterpieces of Newari architecture. From there, a short drive takes you to the hilltop Swayambhunath Stupa (the Monkey Temple). Climbing the stone steps rewards you with a 360-degree view of the valley and a chance to spin the sacred prayer wheels under the watchful eyes of the Buddha.
In the afternoon, you will visit the massive Boudhanath Stupa, one of the largest in the world and the center of Tibetan Buddhism in Nepal. Joining the pilgrims in their clockwise "Kora" around the white dome provides a sense of deep peace. The day concludes with a visit to Patan Durbar Square in Lalitpur, famous for its Krishna Mandir and fine metal crafts. Each site visited today is a UNESCO World Heritage monument, offering a glimpse into a time when the valley was divided into powerful medieval kingdoms. The evening is free to explore the bustling markets of Thamel for local souvenirs or a traditional Nepali dinner.

Leaving the city behind, you will drive toward the southwestern rim of the valley to reach the Chandragiri Hills cable car station. The cable car whisks you up to 2,551 meters, where the Bhaleshwor Mahadev Temple sits. On a clear day, the hilltop provides a spectacular panoramic view of the Himalayan range, including Annapurna, Manaslu, and even Everest in the far distance. After soaking in the views, you descend and begin the 210 km journey to Pokhara, which usually takes 7 to 8 hours.
The drive follows the Prithvi Highway, carved into the steep hillsides along the emerald Trishuli River. This route is the lifeline of Nepal, offering views of terraced farms, suspension bridges, and roadside markets selling fresh local fruits. As you approach Pokhara, the jagged peak of Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) appears on the horizon, signaling your arrival in the "City of Lakes." Upon reaching Pokhara, the atmosphere shifts to a more relaxed pace. You can spend your evening strolling along the Lakeside area of Phewa Lake, where the vibrant cafes and the reflection of the mountains in the water provide a perfect end to the day.

Pokhara Sightseeing & Natural Wonders
Your day in Pokhara begins before dawn with a drive to the Sarangkot Viewpoint. At an elevation of 1,600m, this is the premier spot to witness the sunrise over the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri massifs. Watching the peaks turn from grey to gold is a highlight of any Nepal trip. After breakfast, the sightseeing continues with a visit to Devi’s Fall, where the Pardi Khola river disappears into an underground tunnel, and the nearby Gupteshwor Mahadev Cave, a sacred limestone cavern that offers a view of the waterfall from below.
The afternoon includes a visit to the World Peace Pagoda (Shanti Stupa), perched on a ridge overlooking the entire city and the lake. It is a place of profound silence and beauty. Later, you will enjoy a tranquil boat ride on Phewa Lake, stopping at the Tal Barahi Temple situated on a small island. If time permits, the International Mountain Museum offers a fascinating look at the history of Himalayan mountaineering. The total local travel distance today is about 25 km. You will arrive in Sauraha, the gateway to Chitwan National Park, in the late afternoon. After checking into your jungle resort, the evening features a Tharu Cultural Show. The Tharu are the indigenous people of the Terai, and their traditional "Stick Dance" and rhythmic drumming tell the stories of their life in the forest.
